The aim of this thesis is threefold. Fisrt, it is a translation project of the selected lyrical essays of Chang Hsiao-feng. Secondly, it is a background study of the writer and her lyrical essays, which will place the translations into a context. Thirdly, it is a discussion on the porcess of translating Chang's lyrical essays. This thesis is divided into two parts. Part I.
